The word television is derived from the Greek word, “Tele’ which means distance and the Latin word Vision’ which means vigible. So television means seeing from distance. It is the best and most popular source of entertainment. It gives us pleasure as well as information. We can enjoy drama, sports and many other important events on television. It has educative value. Nowadays it is used for distance learning. Several channels like the Discovery channel and the National Geographic channel telecast highiy informative programmes. It telecasts special programmes for children, women, workers and soldiers. It helps the businessmen giving the news of current trade and commerce. It helps us to develop our art and culture and social life. Sometime television channels offer exciting films on violence and crime. That’s why our young generation are going astray. They become barren morally. So we should guard against bad programmers so that it may not demoralise our youth.
